Pune Registrar Office Introduces Doorstep Will Registration For Senior Citizens Under SAIRAM Initiative
Pune— In a major step towards citizen-friendly governance, the Pune Registration and Stamp Duty office has launched a doorstep registration service for senior citizens. The initiative, introduced under the Maharashtra government’s 100-day administrative reform programme, is part of the ‘Respect’ component of the SAIRAM initiative — Sensitivity, Accessibility, Identity, Respect, Accountability, and Mindfulness.

The service enables elderly individuals to legally prepare and register their wills from the comfort of their homes, eliminating the need to visit government offices — often a challenge for many due to age-related health and mobility issues.
Speaking to the District Registrar, Pune this service is designed to prioritise the needs of senior citizens. To avail of it, applicants or their legal representatives must apply at their nearest sub-registrar office.
A nominal fee of ₹300 will be charged for the home visit. A key condition includes submission of a medical certificate verifying the applicant’s mental fitness. After the application is submitted, sub-registrars schedule a home visit within two to three days. The entire process is video-recorded to ensure legal validity and transparency.

Application forms are available on the official website of the Office of the Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps. For assistance, citizens can also contact the Sarathi call centre.
To promote awareness, the registrar’s office recently conducted an outreach session at Sonashray Old Age Home in Mohammadwadi, educating senior residents about the importance of making a will and the procedures involved.
The initiative will benefit families whose legal heirs are living abroad, as the process ensures privacy and legal compliance without requiring in-person visits.
