Mumbai-Pune Travel Time To Be Reduced By 25 Minutes; 80 Percent Work Of Tunnel From Lonavala To Khopoli Completed
Current traffic state
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway has been experiencing heavy traffic in the 19.8-km lane, which runs between Khopoli and Kusgaon most of the days and having worst situation in weekends, public holidays and rainy seasons.
Great Relief:
personally, believe that this missing link will not only reduce time of 25 minutes but also it will help in reducing traffic chaoes. The total length of this tunnel is nine kilometres, out of which, work worth seven kilometres has been completed.
The width of this tunnel is 23.5 meters. Due to this Missing Link, the Pune-Mumbai distance will be reduced by six kilometres, saving 25 minutes. The MSRDC has completed almost eighty percent of the tunnel work on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway from Lonavala to Khopoli.
Ghats are high in this area, and landslides always occur here during monsoons. Therefore, one lane near the hill towards Mumbai has to be closed during the monsoon. The remaining 13.3 km ‘missing link’ from Khopoli exit to Kusgaon on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will make it possible to reach Mumbai sooner.
