Collector orders survey of bldgs in fringe areas of Pune City

*Inspection Report Likely By End Of November*

Pune: The district administration will seek the help of civil engineers from
other government departments to survey buildings and structures in fringe
areas of the city. The survey will start on November 10 and is likely to
end by the end of the month.

The issue of illegal buildings in the fringes of Pune city came into focus
after a six-storey building collapsed in Narhe killing one person.


The administration found that one floor of the building was illegal.

The accident prompted the administration to initiate measures to identify
similar illegal structures in the outskirts of the city and initiate action
against the builders on priority.

District collector Saurabh Rao called a meeting on Saturday to chalk out a
plan to initiate action against illegal constructions.

Rao said, “The administration will work on various fronts to identify
illegal structures and initiate action against erring builders. To start
with, the administration has begun the work of collecting data of buildings
and structures that have come up in fringe villages in last five years.
This will be followed by a physical survey which will give details on
legal, illegal and partial legal structures which will help us get the
exact number of illegal sites structures.”

Rao said the inspection teams will be ready in next three days. Every team
will have a civil engineer for technical consultation while the revenue
officer will give details regarding permission granted by the
administration. The teams are expected to finish the survey latest by the
end of November.
